Buying & Sending Gift Cards

How do I buy Gift Cards?

You will need to create an account within the Okuru app using your email account or your Google/iCloud or Facebook account.

Once you have signed into your account, you will be shown gift cards for your default country based on your mobile number.

Should you wish to choose gift cards from another country, please choose from the dropdown menu on the top right-hand corner ofyour dashboard screen.

To purchase a gift card, click on your choice, and amount and pay via Paypal.  You will be redirected to the PayPal checkout to make your payment.

Please note that there will be an admin transaction fee per purchase.

Problems with PayPal checkout

If the PayPal checkout does not work after logging into your Paypal Account. Please clear the cache on your mobile Google Chrome or Safari Browsers and/or log into your Paypal Account on your desktop to turn off two factor authentication.

Once the above are done, you can try paying via your PayPal account again.

If that still does not work, please free up the storage space on your mobile phone and try again.

What happens after I purchase a Gift Card?

The gift card you purchased will appear in the default wallet of your app.  If it doesn’t. please refresh your app wallet by exiting and clicking on the wallet again.

Click on the card that you have purchased and you may choose to gift it or use it for yourself.

Choose the Gift It button to begin the gifting process.

You will come to a message screen where you can add a suitable gif or emoji for a variety of occasions and celebrations.  You can also write a short message to go with your gift.

If you choose to use the card for yourself, it will appear in the NEW Collection. Once a gift card is selected for use by thepurchaser, it can no longer be gifted to someone else.

What happens if I receive a Gift Card?

If you have already downloaded the Okuru app, when you click on the link that was sent to you, you will receive the message fromyour sender. Then click on the “Unwrap your gift” button.

Your gift card will now appear in your app wallet and you can then proceed to use it.

If you have not downloaded the Okuru app, you will be directed to the Google Play Store/ Apple App Store to download the app forfree. Once the app has been downloaded your gift card will automatically appear in the app default wallet.

To redeem the value in your gift card, get the cashier at the establishment or online shop if this is permitted, to either scanthe QR code or input the barcode and PIN as provided. And if that does not work, then you can click on the copy icon (it looks like 2 pages one behind the other) that is next to the QR code of the gift card you are redeeming and paste in Google or Safari to obtain the barcode and PIN code for store redemption.

Once a gift card has been redeemed please mark as used if it’s not automatically converted.

Please check terms and conditions of the gift card to see if the full value has to be redeemed in one purchase before redeemingthe gift card.

When will my recipient receive their Gift Card?

Most orders are delivered almost instantaneously. Depending on the retailer, it can sometimes take longer.  Please contact customer.care@okuru.app if there are any problems.

Are Gift Cards redeemable for cash?

The gift cards are not redeemable for cash and will have to be used in accordance with the terms and conditions of the retailer.  Please note that some retailers will require the gift card value to be fully utilised in one transaction.

For terms and conditions of the gift card that is in your wallet, please refer to the corresponding gift card that is being sold on the app. 

Are Gift Cards subject to expiry dates?

Yes, there will be expiry dates according to the current laws pertaining to consumer gift card expiry dates of the Region in question.

These will be shown in the individual retailer gift card terms and conditions.

If the recipient accidentally deletes or loses the message link, can the Gift Card message be resent?

Yes, as long as the gift card has not been downloaded to the recipient’s app wallet.

Where are the Terms and Conditions for each Digital Gift Card purchased?

Please click on the retailer gift card before purchasing.  The terms and conditions should appear in another window.  Once the gift card appears in your wallet, the terms and conditions can only be viewed by referring to a similar gift card on the Okuru app dashboard.

Are there any restrictions on purchasing Digital Gift Cards?

There are no restrictions to purchasing a gift card, however retailers do have set denominations.

Please refer to the specific retailer’s terms and conditions to find out what denominations are available.

Can my gift card be cancelled or refunded?

Once the order has been placed, it is non-refundable.

Receiving Gift Cards

Do I need to activate my Gift Card?

Some gift cards require you to click on an activation link before you can use it in the store you are in.

Can my Gift Card be used in store and online?

Please check the Terms and Conditions of the Gift Card you wish to buy before making your purchase. Each Retailer will have theirown Terms and Conditions and the Gift Card you buy will be governed by these terms.

Can I purchase a Gift Card in a different currency and for a different country?

Yes, you can. However currently, the Okuru app is only available to shoppers wanting to buy gift cards in Australia and Singapore.

We are working to have more countries added over the next months.

Are there any fees for using the Gift Card?

There are no fees for using the gift card. The entire balance on the card is for the cardholder’s use.
